The Dinner Book Club is scheduled to read 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows in June. I decided I would get started on it. What a delightful book. I am totally in love. It is another uniquely written book much like a book we read last year, whose title escapes me at the moment, but written as letters back and forth between various people. The setting is immediately after World War II in 1946 on the Guernsey Island that was occupied by the Germans during the war. It's just filled with information that I had no idea about regarding the war,
intertwined in the lives of what have become real people to me. The main character is an author whose is looking for ideas for a new book. Through a letter she
receives from a native of the Guernsey Island, she becomes caught up in the lives of the people who lived on there and survived the circumstances of the Nazi occupation. It is a beautifully written book, filled with warmth and humor, captures you're attention immediately, is easy to follow and has a wonderful storyline. I loved it, couldn't put it down and can't wait for our club meeting in June to discuss Juliet Ashton and the delightful characters of the Guernsey Island.
