Book for February

Our read for February is 'The Count of Monte Cristo' by Alexandre Dumas.
I don't think you'll want to put the book down, or if you do, you'll wonder all the time what is going on with Edmund Dantes and the people who are involved in his world.
The Count of Monte Cristo is a delicious book, full of intrigue, plots of revenge, great fight scenes, love, passion, and witty social satire. Dumas has a wonderful grasp of human nature and a talent for rendering all the follies of man into a captivating plot so well laid that it was a joy to uncover. I am grateful I took the time to read the unabridged version, which is quite daunting, but worth the length. A great book club read, as there are so many layers to discuss. A tragedy, a love story, an adventure, a tale of interest through all ages. Some might be put off by the size of the book and be tempted to purchase the abridged version. I hope you won't. I understand from those who have read both versions that the abridged version is a pathetic, washed out shadow of the full novel. You will ultimately be captivated by the story of Edmund Dantes, I am sure as I have been. Thank you, Terese A. for suggesting this great read!!!
